Review of Brahms Trio & Beethoven Triple Concerto Tapes

Ed,

As to the Brahms Trio & Beethoven Triple Concerto tapes…  As I mentioned previously, I don’t have the musical training to personally critique the technical aspects of the Brahms Tape – except to say that I find it beautiful and utterly engaging. A few knowledgeable listeners who have heard the tape in my room commented that the performances were “technically excellent” and musically compelling.

As to the sonics, and I know I’ve said this before, every one of your tapes, especially the latest versions, shares these attributes:

  • They come as close as anything I’ve heard to the illusion of performers in the room.
  • Natural, realistic instrumental tone in true 3D space – positively holographic.
  • A tonal richness with texture and purity that I have only ever experienced with live music.
  • Seemingly unlimited dynamics that are never forced – just completely effortless.

The highest praise I can offer is this: the Brahms and the Beethoven are my absolute go‑to show‑off tapes when someone wants to hear the most realistic, natural presentation of real instruments in real space. For me, nothing comes close!
